What’s having the greatest impact on your business at the moment?
Simply coping with the sheer work load and in turn managing the growth of the business to a progressive curve so that we do not expand too rapidly. We have bought three Agfa UV flatbed printers in as many years and have just ordered a Titan 3020 to replace our slightly older Anapurna M2. This will put our flatbed plant list at a Jeti 1220 and a Titan 3020.
Where do you see the greatest wide-format opportunities?
Everywhere. You cannot go anywhere now without spotting media that has been printed using wide-format technology and it has been that way for a considerable amount of time.
What would make your day-to-day operations easier?
One area we are looking into is to trim down the admin. generated during the order to print workflow process. We will be beta testing the new Agfa Assanti software shortly which should be a great help if it delivers what it promises.
Your favourite bit of kit is..?
The Zund G3. It allows us to match the quality of our print with the finish and it is a very simple pleasure watching it work whilst remembering the way it used to be.
What’s the best bit of business advice you’ve been given?
I can't say I have ever really been given any but to treat all your customers the same, no matter the size of their contribution, and to get the job done no matter what. Never lower your standards even under the most extreme of circumstances and never, ever make your problems your customers’.
What are you most proud of achieving?
Balancing a business such as this with a young family (six-year-old twin boys!) as well as my hobby. But creating a business from scratch into a seven figure company within ten years is something to be proud of but easy to lose sight of sometimes.
What lesson does the wide-format sector need to learn?
I wouldn't feel it is my place to answer that question as I am sure there are more qualified people out there.
