Mis-matched to wide-format

SHOULD YOU BE LOOKING AT MIS IN 2012? HERE, KGK PRINT PROVIDES SOME FACTS AND FIGURES THAT MIGHT JUST CONVINCE YOU TO DO SO.

In the June 2011 issue of Image Reports there was an article that focussed on MIS systems being “MIS understood” and sought to provide some hard evidence and numbers backed up by wide-format users of MIS as an integral daily part of their working lives, and who were totally convinced of the benefits. One MIS user, Data Image, highlighted the following benefits: a 50% productivity increases in quotes raise; administration errors reducing by 45%; savings of £ 6,000 a year through paperless working; job fulfilment time reduced by 55%; and a turnover that had increased by an average of 46% a year since implementation. Well guess what! There’s now even more hard evidence out there to support the argument that MIS should be a key consideration for those running wide-format print business.

Here’s what Graham Pitts, one of the partners of KGK Print (which also featured in the June ‘11 feature) now, has to say about the taking on MIS. “When we had gone live with our chosen MIS provider Optimus (in April 2011) we were very confident that we would get some measurable benefits by using its Dash system. We understood we wouldn’t properly know all the numbers until we had a few months’ data to analyse; now we do, and in our opinion these are game changing stats.”

DAILY ADMINISTRATION SAVINGS

Between two of the principle partners in KGK Print and one key member of staff whose function is accounts KGK estimates that at least nine days per month are being saved in reduced administration, job and accounts processing time. Against a mixed hourly wage rate conservative savings add up to at least £10,000 per annum.

INCREASED CASHFLOW

Invoices are now without fail being created on a daily basis and automatically being posted to accounting ledgers electronically; contrast that with pre-MIS, where a two-week (or longer) delay was not uncommon. At this juncture Pitts does not want disclose his exact figures, but with over 200- 300 jobs a month going out the door, imagine how your cashflow could improve if you sent your invoices out earlier?

REDUCED SURPLUS STOCK HOLDING AND REDUCED DESPATCH COSTS

Before it installed Optimus Dash KGK didn’t have a stock management system. Since taking the system Pitts says a conservative estimate is that the company has saved at least £750 per month on managing its stock turn better.

“Our wastage, especially on ink, has decreased and our same day courier and delivery costs are now reduced as well. Simply put, we now can plan better and as a consequence save more money each month due to the extra transparency our MIS provides.” With this ROI data at hand, for Pitts, the question now is: Why would you not invest in MIS to start reaping some of the significant cost benefits and savings? “I can already see at least £40k plus of positives to our business in seven months, let alone me now being able to have uninterrupted holidays. That statistic in my book could even come above the additional savings made

“Knowing what we do now we could never go back. We already have our investment paid for, our cashflow has definitely improved, we have saved huge amounts of time in pricing and processing jobs and critically getting invoices quickly out the door on a daily basis; it’s what we hoped for when we made our investment. I am convinced over time this will give us an even greater commercial edge to make even better decisions about the future of our business.”

Have his stats convinced you that MIS is worth looking at in 2012?
