Case study from Granthams

Buckinghamshire-based Resource Digital Graphics is a specialist display graphics and large format print business. Founded by brothers Darren and Lance Britnell in 2011, and backed up by a small team of professionals with extensive print industry experience, the company is ideally suited to producing some of the most demanding and complex print jobs for its long list of customers.

Resource Digital Graphics is not your standard wide format print company. The company has built a reputation of being able to resolve the most-tricky of printing needs. As Lance Britnell explains: “You name it, we can print on it! We’ve built up expertise in resolving printing issues and if there’s anything out of the norm, customers will come to us for a solution. A lot of our business is through recommendation from existing clients.”

A small business with some very large customers, Resource Digital Graphics’ output includes banners, pop-up displays, posters, display boards, stickers and more. In order to deliver these products to end-user customers, Resource Digital Graphics has continually invested in the very latest printing equipment.

The latest addition to its impressive portfolio - which currently includes an Oce Arizona 360 GT flatbed, an Epson printer and a Kongsberg XN24 flatbed cutter - is the HP Latex 360 wide format printer which it purchased in August 2014 from specialist graphics industry reseller Granthams.

The installation process was straightforward and the new HP Latex 360 Printer has enabled Resource Digital Graphics to produce wide format print business both quickly and cost-effectively. Lance Britnell explains: “We bought the HP printer to replace a machine that wasn’t meeting our requirements. We needed a printer that was able to turn around print in a very quick fashion – maybe even within an hour – that was dry and didn’t need de-gassing. The HP machine more than meets these requirements.”

Lance Britnell concedes that he’s probably one of the worst customers for resellers such as Granthams due to his extremely technical background and exacting standards, particular in relation to colour management. He says: “I am very fussy and particular about the output produced on any given printer.”

The high-performance 64-in HP Latex 360 Printer prints at speeds of up to 91 m2/hr (978 ft2/hr) and helps companies such as Resource Digital Graphics easily expand their large-format printing capabilities, offer new application areas and build a healthier production environment. Resource Digital Graphics uses its HP Latex 360 Printer for a number of applications including roller banners, vinyls, decal vinyls, posters, PVC banners and more.

Since the installation of the printer, Lance has become somewhat of a Latex convert: “I’ve grown to really like the machine and we use it extensively. We print huge amounts of banners on the HP Latex with good results – it really does meet our needs for cost-effective and fast

turnaround wide format print. We also really liked the environment plus points of the HP printer.”

In terms of working with Granthams, Resource Digital Graphics is very complimentary. Lance explains: “I like to do all my own colour profiling and Granthams supports the ColorGate RIP, which I prefer to use, so that’s a real bonus. We do a lot of cross-printer platform printing and – for us – the ColorGate RIP is crucial to matching colour across various printers and substrates.”

Lance concludes: “We choose to work with Granthams because they are very knowledgeable, offer good solid advice and are not overly pushy. They know what they are talking about.”

As for the future, with the new premises and its solid investment in cutting edge equipment, Resource Digital Graphics has all the pieces in place to concentrate on growing its business by developing its ‘bread and butter’ business whilst meeting the ever-more complex needs of its customers.
