Case study from Canon

Award-winning specialist Signs Now has installed a new Océ Arizona 1260 XT system after tasking Canon, leader in imaging solutions, to provide the best way forward as part of a major upgrade to build business revenues.
After more than a decade using an Arizona 250 GT, Signs Now took the plunge to invest again to keep the company at the forefront of production. The deal for the new Arizona was confirmed at Sign & Digital UK, with the installation completed in May. Signs Now manager Carlo Matarazzo said: “We did some in-depth research over six months. Whereas other vendors seemed to focus on speed, Canon took a consultative approach and really wanted to understand our business to help us grow. We haven’t looked back. The machine has been brilliant in terms of speed, quality and the add-on features. ”It’s still early days but we know already it has seriously reduced labour costs and we feel sure it will open up many new business opportunities going forward.” Signs Now machine operator Will Fallon adds: “I absolutely love this machine – it’s a huge step forward. One of the real benefits for me is the automatic cleaning system, which means I don’t have to spend up to 90 minutes a day cleaning the machine and vacuuming.” Signs Now has ISO 9001 and 14001 accreditations for its environment management capabilities. Its health and safety system has been approved by CHAS, SAFE Contractor and Constructiononline. The company, a member of the BSGA – British Sign & Graphics Association and the International Sign Association, has also won various awards, which include the British Sign and Graphics Association Leisure Industry Award, Roll-out Programme, and Sign Business of the Year. Important benefits from the investment for Signs Now include: - Further uplift in quality and a system four times as fast as the previous Arizona 250 GT system with printing of up to 35 sq m/hour - White option. The ability to print directly with white – including text – instead of having to tape up the material and use a cutter beforehand - Automation. Easy operator controls and pins that automatically align work instead of manual operations that cost time - Automatic maintenance capability. Self-cleaning and head testing capabilities that free up valuable time - Ability to print wider on the double flatbed - Advanced production software and a roll-to-roll option Signs Now has four sites and a £3 million turnover, employing 35 staff. It covers the UK and EMEA work that includes all kinds of signage for shop fronts, retail parks, schools and blue-chip companies. Neil McMinn, Canon UK’s Head of Sales for Display Graphics, Industrial and Production Solutions said: “As a partner that can be trusted to help organisations work more efficiently, achieve growth and stand out in an always-on world, we’re delighted that Signs Now has once again invested in one of our world-class Arizona systems. “Canon combines heavy investment in research and development and dedication to launching disruptive technologies to help customers face today’s complex business challenges. The Arizona is a perfect example of how companies can open new doors and increase the bottom line through latest advancements, such as automation and software.”
