Over to you...Malcolm Cairns, Director, Graphic Print and Sign

Printer Q&A

What’s having the greatest impact on your business at the moment?

Material price hikes and uncertainty over further increases.

Where do you see the greatest wide-format opportunities?
New opportunities are appearing all the time due to ink and material technologies, and a fair bit of creative imagination, but for us it’s about ensuring that ‘regular’ display graphics and POS continue to provide sustainable growth through close ties with our customers. Chasing the next big thing can be exciting but only if someone wants it and is prepared to pay for it.

What would make your day-to-day operations easier?
An automated workflow system would help and hopefully be added later this year.

Your favourite bit of kit is..?
Our DYSS X7 3.2m cutting table

What’s the best bit of business advice you’ve been given?
The old nugget ‘Profit is sanity, turnover is vanity’. So true.

What are you most proud of achieving?
Recovering from being made redundant to starting up my own company and seeing it expand. Working with my son who gave up a promising medical career to join us and help us grow.

What lesson does the wide-format sector need to learn?
Price cutting to secure work is the road to ruin long term.
