Canon improves colour gamut with new imagePrograf models

Canon has launched three new imagePrograf large-format printers - the 24in iPF6350 and iPF6300 and the 44in Canon iPF8300. The new models, which use Canon's new 12-colour Lucia Ex pigment ink system, are said to deliver a colour gamut that is approximately 20% wider than the previous Canon series of fine art LFPs. They also have a broader compatibility with third party Rips, media and scanning solutions.

The new ink system has been developed in response to demand for high quality, large-format prints in the professional photographic, proofing and fine art markets. Canon said the ink's polymer structure results in greater scratch resistance and protection from colour fading, whilst reducing bronzing and metamerism to produce more consistent, durable prints. Denser, sharper blacks and smooth colour gradations are able to reproduce the finest shadow area details.?

An additional in-built mechanical rigidity in the new imagePrograf models enables more precise ink placement for improved line and text accuracy and colour uniformity. ?A multi-sensory colour calibrator can also precisely detect, adjust and compensate for printhead density variations.

The new imagePrograf devices are compatible with Rips from GMG, EFI, ColorGate, Onyx Graphics, Eisfeld (PosterJet), CGS, DEV studio and SCP. The printers can use third-party media alongside the Canon recommended stocks by utilising the Media Configuration Tool to calibrate paper settings. Compatible ICC profiles of popular media types are downloadable from the Hahnemuehle, Ilford and Sihl websites. Additionally, the new range of Canon imagePrograf LFPs are compatible with Colortrac and Contex large-format scanners.

Gill Mussell, LFP product manager, Canon UK said: "Key research findings in Canon's own Insight Reports over the past two years have pinpointed large-format printing as a growing business opportunity for a number of market sectors including professional photographic, proofing and graphic arts. The new range of Canon imagePrograf LFPs produce high-quality, consistent prints to help professional print users to meet the demands of their customers without the need to invest in new workflows."?

To support high-volume printing and streamline workflows, the iPF8300 and iPF6350 come equipped with an 80GB hard disk drive. All the new models are also equipped with a standard gigabit Ethernet network interface and an automatic dual-blade cutter.
