Major move for WP Digital

Major move for WP Digital

Wifag Polytype Holding, owner of wide-format inkjet printer company WP Digital, is to take the digital print technology into the packaging and coating/converting markets, as a result of which Polytype Ltd and WP Digital were consolidated on 1 July. The move means WP Digital's site in Wittenbach will be dismantled and all business activities relocated to Fribourg. The relocation should be completed by the end of 2010. WP Digital's products will be produced and developed under the trade name Virtu as an independent business unit. Contacts for the sales and service will remain the same.

Polytype Group CEO Peter Ruth said: "With this step, synergies in manufacturing, service, logistics, research and development and administration will be optimised within the Polytype Group. The know-how of WP Digital will be better used and developed, given the increasing demand for digital printing technologies in all business units of the group."

With this consolidation, Polytype Ltd becomes the successor of WP Digital. Kaspar Widmer, CEO, WP Digital, will manage the digital printing business unit in the future.

The announcement comes on the heels of Fespa 2010 where WP Digital gave the first international preview of the Virtu RS35/48/10, an update to its original 3.5m hybrid engine. It also introduced its proprietary Virtu Flexo ink set for its range of machines, and many visitors had their first view of the five-metre Virtu RR50.
