Sign industry mourns Peter Tipton

Peter Tipton has died aged 74. He was director of the British Sign Association (BSA) which later became the British Sign and Graphics Association (BSGA) for 14 years - from 1991 to 2005. In August 2005, was recruited to act as Secretary to the European Sign Federation, a position he continued to fill right up to the time of his death.

David Catanach, current director of the BSGA, said the sign industry across Europe owes a great deal to Tipton. “Peter was the glue that kept the BSGA and ESF running and without his presence, neither organisation would be as strong as it is today. It is also a fact that, if it wasn’t for Peter, there would not be a national sign making qualification in the UK. It is thanks to his grit, determination and hard work that the qualification exists today.”
