Fespa looks beyond Munich Gyorgy Kovacs has been inaugurated as Fespa president. He takes over from Anders Nilsson who has held the position since Fespa 2007. The handover came on penultimate day of Fespa 2010 in Munich which had 700 exhibitors covering a floorspace of over 30,000m2. On the opening day, Tuesday 22 June, Fespa said the show attracted a record 6002 visitors, six percent up on the 2007 event in Berlin.
Oc? brings out higher speed ArizonaFespa 2010 has seen the introduction of the high-speed Oc? Arizona 550 XT flatbed printer which builds on the success of the Arizona 550 GT system introduced in February. The XT version can run at over 40m2/hr, or print more than 100 125 x 250cm boards per eight-hour shift.
d.gen improves textile printer offeringNew versions of d.gen's Telios and Artrix digital textile printers were introduced at Fespa 2010. The Telios GT and Artrix GT are faster versions than the existing platforms and have been designed with the environment in mind, featuring no phenols or solvents and using VOC-free inks.
Esko and HP strengthen partnership to market workflow solutionsEskoArtwork's partnership with the HP graphics solutions business has been extended to the HP Scitex large format division so that both will market integrated workflow solutions specifically tailored for the sign and display market. These solutions include the complete EskoArtwork i-cut Suite, a collection of pre-production design-to-finish software to streamline the entire production workflow.
Gemini unveiled by Grapo
Grapo Technologies used Fespa 2010 to debut the Gemini flatbed UV printer. With speeds of up to 90m2/hr the newcomer offers double the speed of previous generation Manta printers. Gemini features CMYK and white ink and is being targeted at screen printers seeking to move to digital as well as at digital sign printers wanting to migrate from solvent printing. The Gemini has 10 Xaar 1001 printheads and variable drop sizes from 6 to 42 picolitres for grayscale printing.

The environmental standard of ISO14001 has been attained by Ultima Displays. ISO 14001 specifies the elements required for an EMS and forces organisations to review the day-to-day business activities which impact upon the environment.
3D POP display board from Hexacomb
Hexacomb will be launching a new structural alternative for point-of-purchase displays at Fespa 2010. Falconboard Build is a paper-based graphic display board which has been structurally engineered for 3D, point-of-purchase applications requiring heavier/bulkier product display fabrication that can span several metres.
More media profiled for HP latex printers
Two of Kay Premium Marking Films most popular products have profiled for HP's latex printers: K88011 VWS I, suitable for long term applications in outdoor and indoor environments; and K75211 VWS II, a 50 micron Matt White cast vinyl film specially developed for digitally printed vehicle wrapping applications where adhesion in recesses is highly important.
Roll-up for new Satin Crystal
Metamark has added Satin Crystal Roll Up to its digital media portfolio. The new material is a novel, satin finished 170 micron film which the company is making available in 10 and 40 metre lengths at 914mm and 1370mm widths. The material features a brilliant white, print receptive face film and a grey, light-blocking backing. The finished print is curl resistant and ready to be loaded directly into any roll-up stand without laminating or any further finishing treatmen
SCIA sees benefits of HP Scitex LX800
French company SCIA is winning new work as a direct result of installing a 3.2m HP Scitex LX800 latex printer which the company bought for its production and environmental benefits. "We found that printers using solvent-based inks create an uncomfortable working environment," said Laetitia Lelandais, partner, SCIA. "Rather than investing in extractor equipment, we decided to purchase the LX800, since not only do the HP latex inks it uses require no ventilation, but the ability to print odourless large-format applications opened an entire new range of business opportunities for SCIA.
Mutoh introduces Zephyr Ts
Mutoh is introducing a compact 65in (165cm) wide roll-to-roll digital UV inkjet printer for the production of road traffic signs, safety and information signs. Called the Zephyr TS, the machine will print directly onto retro-reflective sheeting, using specially formulated UV inks. ?The combination of printer, UV inks, retro-reflective sheeting and UV protection overlay film fulfills the European standard for fixed vertical road traffic signs (EN 12899-1:2007)
Agfa extends UV wide-format with LED offering?
On display for the first time at Fespa 2010 will be the Agfa Anapurna 2500LED which introduces LED curing technology on a UV-curable 2.5m flatbed and roll-fed platform. "The launch of our 2500LED printer will see the start of a revolution in the wide-format printing sector as users look to reduce their running costs and maintain high quality output on all types of media," said Willy Van Dromme, business line manager for wide-format inkjet at Agfa Graphics. "The incorporation of LED UV-curable technology in the Anapurna 2500LED offers greater flexibility on more materials and substantially lower energy costs."
