Amari introduces plywood for direct flatbed printing

Amari Plastics has added to its DTS range with a plywood sheet for direct digital flatbed printing. The new Multiply Digital is targeted at the hoarding, advertising and general sign markets. Because it can be printed directly it does away with the need to print onto vinyls or ACM and then mount on to standard plywood. It can also be more easily and economically recycled.

Colorific develops biodegradable ink for Uniform machines

Colorific's Bio-U is now available for both the Uniform Cadet and the Uniform Grenadier. The Bio-U formula has been developed to colour match the Uniform ActivaSol/Colorific Elite formula, allowing existing colour profiles to be used.

A buy-back scheme has been launched for Epson customers. The scheme, which includes de-installation of out-dated technology to the installation of new Epson models, sees Epson taking responsibility for recycling in accordance with WEEE regulations.

Daelprinting slashes lead times with Inca Onset S20

Belgium-based Daelprinting has expanded its service offering and slashed lead times via the installation of an Inca Onset S20 with added Ultratone colour option. Arjan D'haene, commercial director, said: "Up to now, our business has comprised 50% screenprinting and 50% digital services. But, as most of our customers require materials to be printed in two, three or sometimes four different languages with print runs never exceeding 500 sheets, we were keen to invest in a high performance digital printer to offer them a better service with shorter turnaround times and high quality print.

Darwin Chair highlights inkjet evolution

When graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister wanted to find a high-quality, durable printing solution that would allow him to realise his vision for the Darwin Chair with a cushion made of hundreds of sheets of printed paper that could be ripped off to reveal a new graphic beneath, he plumped for HP Designjet L65500 using latex inks on HP DuPont Tyvek Banner.

PrintIt! Scotland goes live

PrintIt! has teamed up with the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and Graphic Enterprise Scotland (GES) to launch PrintIt! Scotland, which has the potential to get print careers in front of children in more than 300 secondary schools. This extension of PrintIt! comes on the back of the 100,000th student having registered for the programme since it was first launched in England September 2005.

Oc? clinches wide-format awards

Oc? has received two Bertl Best designations. The Oc? Arizona 350 XT UV flatbed printer was named 'Best Innovative Technology for Wide Format' and the Oc? PlotWave 300 system was named 'Best Eco-Friendly Wide Format Printer'.

BPIF anticipates employment law developments for 2010

The BPIF's legal team has outlined what is likely to come in terms of employment law for 2010. The most significant piece of legislation is likely to be the passing of the Equality Bill, announced last April, and expected to be given royal assent in April this year. If the bill is approved, expect it to bring dramatic changes.

Velmex to show off EFI developments

EFI improves colour management system for sign and display

EFI has upgraded its XF software series. Key features include cutting-engine support and RGB print workflow to provide a one-stop inkjet production solution. The new EFI XF v4.1 also integrates with EFI Web Control Center, EFI's web-based application for remote control and distribution of print jobs. These new features have been added to all EFI XF products.

'Best in Class' awards for Colortrac wide-format scanners

Colortrac has achieved a BERTL (Business Equipment Research Testing Labs) 'Best in Class' for its CCD-based Colortrac SmartLF Gx+42 professional colour graphics and the CIS-based SmartLF Ci 40 technical document large-format scanners. Both had previously won BERTL's 'Outstanding' rating, accompanied by 4.5 Star Awards.
