Icon Graphics takes UK's first QS3220

Icon Graphics in Bletchley has bought the UK's first EFI Vutek QS3220. Director Neville Tosar said the flexibility of the roll-to-roll/flatbed UV printer, its 3.2m width and high production speed (up to 84m2/hr) make it the right machine for the growing company.

Large-format core to PrintIT! competition

Large-format print will be a core part of the fifth annual PrintIT! competition which targets students undertaking GCSEs in Graphic Products and Product Design. More than 200 schools have pre-registered to take part in the 2009/2010 competition which will challenge students to design a print-based campaign to promote Fairtrade products in supermarkets.

ImagePerfect media range sees PVC free additions

The ImagePerfect range of media from Spandex has been expanded to include 100% PVC-free materials specifically designed for large-format digital inkjet printing. The new materials are compatible with all eco-solvent and solvent inks, as well as UV-cured inks and are suitable for use in an extensive range of indoor and outdoor signage applications. The polyolefin products are both plasticiser- and chlorine-free and feature a specially-developed top-coating for vibrant, high quality printability.

Mimaki brings out UV flatbed JFX-1631

The JFX-1631 grand format, flatbed printer tops Mimaki's range of UV printers and boasts a low power consumption, long lasting and low heat emitting LED UV curing system for efficiency. One inherent feature of the LED technology is that it requires no 'warm up' time, so can be switched on and off as required, reducing energy consumption and extending the life of the LEDs to somewhere in the region of 5,000 hours.

Plea to printers to get involved in shaping skills training

Proskills, the Sector Skills Council for the Process and Manufacturing sector, is making a plea to printers to join forces with it to help shape the future direction of skills provision and training for the printing industry. Richard Moore, the recently appointed Print and Paper Industry Lead at Proskills is heading the campaign to encourage as many printers as possible to provide more representative input into how Proskills can assist employers gain the right training provision, offer the most appropriate industry-specific qualifications and guide businesses through the process of obtaining government funding for skills training.

EFI enters agreement with Nazdar for solvent ink manufacturing

Nazdar is taking over production of EFI's Vutek and Inkware solvent inks. The inks will use the current formulations, with the same warranty coverage offered, and will be manufactured to the same stringent quality-control requirements.
