Evado Media sets up EV Signs

On the back of its first successful first year of trading, Devon-based Evado Media has launched a standalone print operation called EV Signs. It will be headed by Chris Williams, who moves from another local signage shop, and will operate with nine full-time staff, mainly designers.

SP Group appoints new managing director to further drive business success

St Ives has appointed a new MD for the SP Group, its POS, POP and related services division. Steve Parkin takes the SP helm supported by other new key appointments to drive business growth - Andrew Mallows becomes sales director while Adrian Hope takes on the IT directorship.

EDP Awards winners announced

The EDP (European Digital Press) Association has announced its 2010 awards winners ahead of a special presentation ceremony at Ipex. The EDP, of which Image Reports is the UK representative, grants awards to what its technical committee considers to be the best products introduced into the European market over the course of the previous 12 months in acknowledgement of the research and development taking place within the industry.

Extensis developing product to support Web fonts

Ipex set to be a sell-out

Ipex 2010 has reached almost full capacity with more than 75 new international suppliers signing up in the last couple of months, adding a total of 1,300m2 to the overall floorplan. The wave of pre-registrations to date also signposts towards a successful Ipex 2010. Visitors from over 150 countries have pre-registered to date, with 21% from Europe, 9% from Asia and 10% from Middle East and Africa.

GTMS creates a scene with 2D dragon in Westfield

As part of the promotion for the Paramount Pictures UK release of 'How to train your dragon', a computer animated fantasy film by Dreamworks, GTMS was called upon to design, manufacture and install two 2D dragon images, each measuring 10m in wingspan, at London's largest shopping centre.

Pyramid Visuals pimps the Audi R8 Spyder

Pyramid Visuals is the company behind the stunning car wraps in the new Audi R8 TV advert. Director Justin Murray, a self confessed petrol head, jumped at the chance to be involved in the project when advertising agency BBH London approached Pyramid and Rouge Films at the beginning of 2010. "When I got the call I was very excited," he said. "We work on many vinyl wrap projects, so we're used to turning it around quickly and getting it right first time and this proved to be key with the quick turnaround needed on this project."

Queen's Award for inkjet developer Xennia

Rapid growth in international sales, based on Xennia Technology strategy of using inkjet printing technology to revolutionise industrial markets, has resulted in the Hertfordshire-based firm being presented with a 2010 Queen's Award for International Trade.

3D prototyping solution added to HP Designjet range

The potential of inkjet technology to grow the 3D prototyping market has been boosted with the launch of HPs Designjet 3D printer series. Aimed at the mechanical computer aided design (MCAD) and educational markets but with scope for printers looking to diversify, the system allows users to produce plastic 3D models.

Repositionable film from Neschen

A repositionable, digitally printable display film called solvoprint easy dot 100 has been introduced by Neschen. Available in glossy or matte, the film can be printed with solvent-, eco-solvent- and UV-curing inks. The dot-type adhesive coating, developed within the R&D department of Neschen Technical Coatings Division, provides a channel for air to move ensuring that the films can evenly be applied by inexperienced staff without bubbles or creases. ?After use, the film can then be removed from almost any substrate residue-free. The PE backing paper ensures that the film lies flat in the printer and there is no need for an additional protective film when used indoors.

EFI MIS tool improved for wide-format

EFI used the Connect users' conference in Las Vegas to preview enhancements to its EFI Pace management system including iPad and iPhone applications and tools for the wide-format market aimed at increasing productivity and profitability for print providers. EFI Pace, which provides end-to-end print shop and production management for mid-sized commercial and specialty printers, has also now received JDF certification from the official certification body for CIP4 (the International Cooperation for the Integration of the Processes in Prepress, Press and Postpress).

Ipex+ diary helps you plan your visit

The Ipex 2010 organiser has launched Ipex+, an online diary providing an overview of free educational sessions on offer to visitors at the show. The system allows exhibitors to highlight on-stand seminars, educational debates and live presentations via www.ipex.org/plus so you can maximise your time at the show.

Canon's Business Leap competition now open to entry

Canon's Business Leap competition, announced in February, is now open to entry. Reflecting Canon's 'Leap' theme for Ipex 2010, the competition aims to inspire printers to consider making a leap in a new business direction, while at the same time providing guidance in the creation of a comprehensive business plan, a crucial requirement for any printer seeking access to finance.

New categories for MACtac Innovative Awards

The MACtac Innovative Awards 2011 is now open to entry and this year has six new categories to refect the changing nature of the market. All visual communication players are eligible to enter the awards which are open for work produced in 2008, 2009 and 2010 using digital print, CAD techniques, offset or silk-screen printing on MACtac MACmark, Imagin, MACscreen  or Permacolor products.
