Roland DG simplifies the route to wide-format for commercial print sector

Roland DG has developed a microsite (www.rolanddg.co.uk/RCM17) explaining the benefits of wide-format inkjet production to the commercial print sector. “These companies already have the production skills; now we can help them make the transition into all areas of short-run digital output, including colour matched proofing, labels and packaging prototyping, as well as signs, displays, point-of-sale and a wealth of additional innovative applications," said Brett Newman, Roland DG (UK) technical director.

Exeter labels and packaging specialist James Townsend has relaunched its in-house prepress department as a separate reprographics company called Think Repro. It has also installed a Roland VersaUV LEC-330 which, linked to its GMG colour management workflow, enables it to offer colour accurate proofs on any substrate.

Mutoh brings out Viper TX Professional

At the recent Viscom Italy 2010 Mutoh Belgium introduced a digital direct-to-fabric production printer with a moving adhesive belt system, called Viper TX Professional. The heavy-duty piezo drop-on-demand inkjet printer has been purpose-built for direct printing onto stretchable, knitted, woven and open structure fabrics, such as PES flag, cotton, nylon, lycra, silk, poplin, etc. and is targeted at sample creation and production runs of customised and personalised fabrics, home decoration fabrics, sportswear, swimwear, etc.

Small firms pay more than bigger brothers as average earnings

Average earnings across the print sector have declined by 11.5% according to the findings of the BPIF’s Manpower Survey report, reflecting a dramatic reduction in overtime hours and decrease in shift payments. The report also highlighted that average basic wages in companies with less than 25 people are greater than those in companies with 25 or more. According to the survey this suggests that smaller companies need to pay a higher basic rate as they often don't offer as much overtime.

Trade only print company Wirralco has launched an online order system covering all sorts of print, including large-format posters, though it will be the New Year before that part of the site is fully operational.

Neschen brings out new fabrics

From Neschen come two new printable fabrics to complement the 'VarItex decoframe 250 B1 CA' launched at Fespa.  The new Dyetex flag and Dyetex display are knitted polyester fabrics said to have good print through characteristics which allow them to be printed onto directly using dye-sublimation inks.

Fine art metal on a roll from Metallurgy4.com

Metallurgy4.com (UK) has brought to market metallurgy fine art metal on a roll, a process of printing fine art images directly onto mirror metal using a standard pigmented inkjet machine while holding Giclee quality at 2880dpi.

ITL promotes Dean Terry to sales manager

Ink Technologies (UK) has been promoted to sales manager. Terry will work with the recently expanded customer service department and aims to acquaint a wider audience with the company’s range of options for small-, wide- and large-format production.
