Green banner material from Ultraflex

Ultraflex Systems, a US-based supplier of wide-format printable media, has introduced a PVC free and 100% recyclable smooth, scrimless, block out banner material that is compatible with eco-solvent, solvent, UV or latex inkjet printing. In another move the company has also developed a website exclusively for Descor, a textile used primarily for decorative wall and ceiling applications. It can also be mounted into a corresponding track/profile system or hung in traditional methods for hanging textiles. The Descor website includes material descriptions and specifications, galleries of applications and an image library for Descor design purposes etc. 

Fespa Digital 2011 looking good

70% of the show floorspace for Fespa Digital 2011 has already been booked and an impressive line-up of corporate sponsors have pledged support for the show which doesn’t open its doors until May next year. “Looking ahead to 2011, there is a common belief that our industry will have put the economic downturn behind it and be ready to embrace the future with a new generation of digital investment," said Fespa marketing director Marcus Timson.

GMG updates ColorProof

GMG ColorProof 5.2 features the new Adobe PDF print engine 2.5, advanced spot colour handling and the new GMG ProofControl Inline software module for fully automated proof verification for Epson Stylus Pro 4900, 7890 and 9890 printers (as well as the 7900 and 9900 printers with an integrated measuring device). The interaction of ProofControl Inline and the GMG AutoCalibrationWizard also helps to keep these printers automatically calibrated. Meanwhile GMG has confirmed that its ColorProof proofing solution will be available shortly for the Mimaki UJF-706 inkjet printer.

JFX-plus Series LED UV flatbeds from Mimaki

November will see the first shipments of Mimaki’s new JFX-1631plus and JFX-1615plus UV LED large-format printers which the company says are 80% faster than its existing JFX-1631. The JFX-plus printers have a specified maximum print speed of 23.6m2/hr through the implementation of a post-curing unit, where the printed ink receives a secondary curing after the initial one from the head carriage mounted lamps. In addition, the printers can be equipped with a roll unit for uninterrupted printing.

InkTec’s Back-Lit approved for HP latex printers

InkTec’s Back-Lit film has been approved by HP for use on its latex printers. As a result, InkTec Europe will now be stocking the Back-Lit on a 3in core to ensure compatibility over the full range of latex printers. The film is available in all widths up to 1524mm.

New inks from Mutoh 

Mutoh will introduce two new inks at the Viscom Italy show later in October - Bio-Lactite and MS Ultra.

Agfa adds roll option to Jeti 1224 flatbed printer

Agfa Graphics has developed a dedicated flat-to-roll (FTR) unit to broaden the scope its 2.4m wide Jeti 1224 UV HDC UV-curable flatbed printer. Now, as well as being able to print to rigid substrates up to 5cm in thickness, the FTR option supports media rolls of up to 113kg. The machine’s configuration means it can be operated by a single user, with fast and simple changeover between flatbed and FTR roll-fed modes.

Second speed increase for Onset S20

Inca Digital has increased the output of its wide-format Inca Onset S20 flatbed printer to 310m2/hr. The Onset S20 has undergone two speed upgrades since its launch last year to give an overall 24% performance boost: new automation introduced in June gave the first improvement, while the new print mode announced today adds a further 15%.

Vision in Print conference to tackles waste issues

The Winning the War on Waste conference, taking place on 22 November at the Lancaster London Hotel, will tell print and packaging businesses how to best cut costs and improve environmental performance with the aid of lean techniques.

PrintIt! proves its point

As PrintIt! kick starts its sixth year for the 2010/2011 academic year, research undertaken by Proskills amongst participating PrintIt! schools has confirmed that it is increasing the profile of the printing industry and attracting potential young talent to consider a future in print. According to the survey results, 61% of past PrintIt! students had gone on to seek work experience in print-related organisations while 87% of teachers believed the PrintIt! programme provided a good insight into the printing industry.

Fespa and member associations create European Congress

Fespa, with the support of six of its national member associations including Prism in the UK, will host its first European Congress on 19 November 2010 in Brussels. The congress, which is targeted specifically towards business owners, directors and general managers of print service businesses in the UK, Benelux, Germany, Switzerland and France, will have the theme ‘Continuing to Innovate’. The congress will feature technical content as well as covering issues such as marketing and the environmental agenda from a northern European perspective.

Decorative print surface introduction by 3A Composites

From 3A Composites come Kapatex and Kapadecor which combine decorative surfaces with strong resin-impregnated surfaces to allow for various print applications for POS/POP displays, interior design etc.
