A travelogue of sorts

Where are you going? According to nearly all the press releases I now receive, many of you are taking your customers on a journey - which is different from taking them for a ride! - with the aim of reaching some profitable, sustainably green oasis. Apparently you’re taking your staff, suppliers and investors with you. Sounds great. But do you know exactly where your destination is, and do you have a reliable route to get you there?

So many trade bodies, event organisers and interest groups are holding meetings of one kind or another to find out where the industry is heading, in the hope of steering a clearer path - for their own ends, and for yours. In this issue we take a look at some of the feedback they’re getting. For instance, turn to p25 to get a clearer view of what’s happening in regards to temporary retail display and packaging recyclability according to POPAI data presented at the recent ‘Sustainability in Retail: Past, Present and Future’ webinar.

Of course not everyone wants to be on the same route - we know only too well what both closures and congestion mean for businesses, hence the scramble to diversify. In this issue’s Zeitgeist we look at partnership working as an efficient means of doing that, and Mike Freely of Service Graphics Display talks about its new ‘Sustainable Choices’ plan that can only be delivered through collaboration.

There’s plenty more to read on that topic of sustainability too, and on other ‘hot’ issues such as tackling racism in the workplace, staff retention, and employment law developments you need to be aware of. Here’s hoping the articles help you manoeuvre around some of the bumps in the road ahead.
