New blood exhibition made with Kavalan Gecko PVC-free film

Digital Plus has worked with Kavalan for the first time using its PVC-free Gecko product for a new high-profile museum exhibition.

Digital Plus printed and installed large-scale wall graphics for a thematic blood exhibition at Thackeray Medical Museum in Leeds.

The Kavalan Gecko was chosen due to it complementing a newly commissioned work by local artist Gemma Wood.

Branching out across the gallery space, Vessel explores the themes of connection through blood and vein-like structures, tracking the intimate ties that can be produced through blood transfusion.

With the use of this PVC-free product, Digital Plus has taken a vital step in its sustainability goals with the material being Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approved. It is also compatible with UV LED and Latex inks.

David Brisk, sales director at Digital Plus, said: “We chose Kavalan for this job because of its excellent on-site finishing properties. It offers superior quality without any fraying issues that we’ve experienced with other materials.

“We hand-trim the material on three sides to achieve a perfect fit without the small frays, which would be unacceptable in high-end heritage or corporate environments. It’s got a softer aesthetic too, which works much better with the space than a more corporate vinyl look.”
