At a ‘Moss Unveiled’ open day the company has set out its strategic vision on sustainability, apprenticeships and innovation to newly elected MP Ian Sollom and local business heads, councillors, and community leaders.
The group, treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of facilities, heard from a series of speakers from across the business on its continuous improvement programme with a stress on sustainability being central to its print and graphics operations. Managing director Michael Green, operations director Mark Rose and continuous improvement manager Lee Garnett outlined the strategy behind the company’s desire to drive change across the events and exhibitions sector.
A key part of Moss’s work on Environmental, Societal and Governance (ESG) has been its early career’s ambassador team’s engagement with young people in the local community, attracting apprentices and trainees into this sector. Working with local charity Inspire 2 Ignite and apprentice providers Learn2Print, the business has taken on six apprentices and two trainees over the past few years – and received over 22 applicants for its last scheme.
As a rural business, Moss emphasised the need for good transport links to enable young people to take advantage of apprenticeships and this message was a clear takeaway for those attending.
Commenting on the event, Sollom said: “It’s been a pleasure visiting Moss and hearing how a focus on sustainability has become fundamental to the business. That this focus is driving investment in local young people through a really successful approach to apprenticeship and trainee opportunities, as well as reductions in the environmental impacts of the business is particularly pleasing to hear. Moss is a great example of the difference local companies are making in St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire.”
Michael Green added: “Sustainability is fundamental to all Moss’s global operations and today has been a fantastic opportunity to share how we are focusing on ESG in its widest sense. From innovation in materials and processes to investment in young people and apprenticeships, we are dedicated to offering sustainable and innovative solutions and sharing best practice locally and across our industry.”
