Vivid has patented its VeloTaper

Vivid wishes to protect its customers from copycats or counterfeit products as it recently completed its patent to its VeloTaper.

The product was introduced to the company’s VeloBlade lineup of digital die-cutting solutions in September 2022, to save customers time and effort by completely automating tape application.

To protect this technology, Vivid filed for a UK patent in early 2021 and implemented an international patent strategy.

Vivid has proactively sought patent protection to defend its technology against potential copycats.

Managing director, Martin Evans, said: “All of our technology is developed in-house, and protecting our intellectual property is a top priority for us.

“Patents are not just about safeguarding our ideas; they ensure our customers receive the quality, reliability and superiority that only Vivid can provide.”

Automating the task of applying double-sided tape has ensured users have accurate placement on a variety of media, boosting productivity and reducing waste.

The VeloTaper can place and cut a range of double-sided tapes up to 22mm in width precisely along both the X and Y axis.

The system integrates flawlessly with the VeloBlade Volta+ models, enabling users to cut, crease, and tape in a single operation.

Gavin Ward, Vivid’s technical director, said: “We saw a substantial gap in the market.

“While our systems were capable of cutting and creasing packaging, the application of double-sided tape remained a manual process.

“This realisation drove us to develop a fully automated solution that eliminates inconsistencies and further enhances speed and efficiency.”

Looking ahead, Vivid plans to broaden the VeloTaper’s application by adapting it for their larger Nexus range, set to launch in 2025.
