3M Cooling Film available at William Smith
William Smith has launched 3M Cooling Film, a new reflective performance film for trucks, buses, vans and other commercial vehicles.
Applied to a vehicle’s roof, it reflects more than 85% of solar radiation, which reduces heat build-up inside the vehicle, allowing for lower operating costs.
The film gives vehicle wrappers and graphics installers a new product to offer existing fleet customers, and it installs like vehicle graphics, using familiar tools and techniques.
Lindsay Hutchinson, head of marketing at William Smith Group 1832, said: “Fleet operators are always looking for ways to reduce running costs, and 3M Cooling Film gives installers a new way to help them. It goes on like the graphics they already apply, so it’s a natural addition for any business already working with fleets.”
3M Cooling Film can, according to 3M and depending on the application and conditions, keep vehicle roofs between 5°C and 16°C cooler and interiors up to 5.5°C cooler.
A refrigerated trailer is a good example, as the refrigeration system works to keep the contents cool while the sun heats the trailer from outside, which would allow the refrigeration unit to not work as hard which can help reduce fuel and energy costs.
The same principle applies to delivery vans, where drivers and temperature-sensitive goods benefit from a cooler load space, and to buses, where lower cabin temperatures improve passenger comfort.
The film features a hard-coat finish that resists dirt, chemicals and everyday wear, along with 3M Comply and Controltac adhesive technologies and a five-year warranty.
Ms Hutchinson concluded with that they expect to see strong interest from refrigerates transport and delivery fleets.
