Canon partners with the RSBC to create a new photography exhibition
Canon UK & Ireland has partnered with the Royal Society for Blind Children (RSBC) to create a tactile photography exhibition designed to enable visually impaired students to experience images through touch and storytelling.
The project began in late 2025, when Canon Ambassador Elisa Iannacone delivered a bespoke Canon Young People Programme workshop for seven RSBC students in Orpington. During the session, students created portraits based on their favourite activities, using photography to express their identities and personalities.
The portraits have now been transformed into tactile relief prints using Canon’s elevated printing technology. Produced on the Canon Arizona 2380 XT using PRISMAelevate XL software, the process uses carefully developed height maps and multiple layers of UV-curable ink to create raised textures that can be explored by hand.
Sarah Mallion, Vice Principal/Head of Business and Operations at RSBC, said the response from students and their families had been “overwhelmingly positive”, adding that the project demonstrated how technology can create new opportunities for young people to engage with creativity.
Following the exhibition, the relief prints will remain permanently displayed at RSBC, allowing students to revisit their work and continue engaging with photography in an accessible format.
