Onyx colour scientist wins prestigious award

Rip software developer Onyx Graphics’ colour scientist Dr. Max Derhak has been given a Macbeth Award from the Inter-Society Color Council (ISCC) - the principal professional society in the field of colour in the US encompassing the arts, sciences and industry - for outstanding contribution in the field of colour science.

Derhak is the principal scientist at Onyx Graphics and co-chair of the International Colour Consortium (ICC). Dr. Danny Rich, chair of the Macbeth Award Selection Committee said of him: “Maxim Derhak has been selected by the award committee for his work on spectral color reproduction in the graphic arts, what has become known as iccMax. We felt that this development was both recent and significant in its achievements and thus deserving of the recognition of the ISCC.”

A patent submitted in 2011 by Derhak was awarded this past June. Patent number 9,373,063 covers technology that enables auto-ink restrictions, which can lead to more efficient color profiles and better ink utilisation.

Derhak will deliver the lecture ‘Driving the Future of Colour’ at the SGIA expo in September in Las Vegas, where he will discuss how emerging technologies in colour can solve some of today’s colour management challenges.
