Case study from Epson

Shore Wraps, Scotland’s leading vehicle wrapping and livery specialist, has invested in the Epson SureColor SC-S80600 to expand on its solutions to customers and meet increased business opportunities as it moves into larger premises.

The six-year-old Glaswegian business approached Epson supplier Perfect Colours in search of a system that would reliably produce vibrant colours.

Chris Williams, Managing Director of Shore Wraps, explains: “We needed a new system that would consistently and reliably reproduce colours and hit Pantones. Perfect Colours knew our business and recommended the Epson solvent printer, so we made the jump from Latex.”

The first job produced on the new solution was a wrap for a Lamborghini that entered this year’s Cannon Run luxury driving experience: “The client came to us a few months prior wanting to print on non-printable satin pearlescent film,” explained Chris. “We suggested they hold while we waited to get the 80600 installed. Fortunately, they did, and they were vey happy with the results. The new system makes all the difference. The results are vibrant, it gives branding more life and we have complete confidence in its ability to accurately recreate our vivid designs.”

He continues: “We completed another job for a customer whose colours are black and orange. We have done a lot of work with them in the past and we said they would notice a difference and they did – the black was solid, and the orange was day-glo. They were over the moon. The colours really pop.”

Being confident in the colours produced allows the team to embrace their creative spirit: “We also like to do gradients and come up with mad designs,” says Chris. “Before the Epson it wasn’t always possible to get what was on the screen replicated as we would have liked. We would often produce the design, test it, adjust the printer, test it again and so on. Sometimes we would spend three hours doing that. Now we can design, run a test, and print. It is much faster.”

Shore Wraps’s 64-inch Epson SureColor SC-S80600 system features a combined precision media feeding system and high-performance Dual-Array PrecisionCore TFP print head, which supports enhanced productivity. Its uses Epson UltraChrome GS3 9-color solvent ink – including a red solvent along with the option for white or metallic silver inks – for outstanding photographic print quality, durability, and media compatibility.

Chris added: “Quite often when people look at a new solution speed is the main consideration, but for us it was all about the quality and the range of colours. We can be much more creative than we were previously and now we are excited about the designs we can do and the final look that we can achieve. We can be more confident in the results we will get and encourage customers to be more ambitious.”

The system was installed by Perfect Colours. Director Dan Walker says: “We have worked with Shore Wraps for a number of years and so when they explained what they wanted from their next investment, we knew the Epson SureColor SC-S80600 would be perfect. The ability to easily and confidently recreate stunning designs, quickly, direct from file, meant they could achieve in real life what was once possible only in their imagination.”
