Case study from CMYUK

Clothing manufacturer 13 Amp has installed a Klieverik Vertex calender press from CMYUK. It will be used to create samples of new women’s and children’s clothing lines.

The business had decided on purchasing a Klieverik heat press on the recommendation of other colleagues in the industry, and a marketing communication from CMYUK inviting customers to an Open Day at its Shrewsbury Demonstration Centre, pretty much sealed the deal.

“We visited the CMYUK showroom and saw the Klieverik Vertex in action which was excellent,” says David Wilson, Fabric Technical Sourcing Manager, 13 Amp, adding, “CMYUK is very good at communications. It’s pre-and post-sales service has also been very good.”

13 Amp is a family-owned business that was established in 1985 by brothers Glyn and Haydn Evans and managed  today by Glyn. Based in Leicester this design-led clothing manufacturing company produces women’s and children’s wear specialising in jersey and soft separates for garments ranging from tops to dresses across a varied cross section of the high street from top end fashion retailers such as Sea Salt, Cotton traders and Roman Originals to supermarkets including the Morrisons’ Nutmeg brand.

The company’s HQ in Leicester is home to its materials. sourcing, sales, design, sampling and production management departments. Warehousing, finishing and garment despatch also shares the same site.

Sample designs are either generated from the in-house design team or from a specific customer.  They are then printed onto paper using an in-house dye sublimation printer, which is then transferred to a polyester-rich fabric base via the Vertex calender press, and then finished. Turnaround time from printing and constructing a sample garment takes a single day.  Once a sample has been approved, volume production takes place at partner manufacturing facilities in Morocco and Sri Lanka.

The Vertex is a compact calender press with  a robust build featuring an oil-filled heat drum that facilitates consistent brilliant colour reproduction and high print definition.  An ingenious belt tracking system also ensures error-free, right-first-time production.

With a working width of 1650mm, it can handle both single piece and roll-to-roll materials and  is able to cope with the widest range of fabrics and applications.

Says David, “I have friends in the business who swear by their Klieveriks. The Vertex is easy to use, reliable and does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s smaller than the calender press that we’ve replaced, reducing our power usage that will help us make savings in the long run.”
