Professionals in Print and Media launches with bush-craft event

PPM (Professionals in Print and Media), formerly known as the YMP, has just been rebranded as an all inclusive membership organisation designed to build networking, training and communication skills amongst the younger members of the industry. A national bush-craft training weekend, run by outdoor adventure company Shaggy Sheep Wales, over the weekend of 23 - 25 September, will kick-start the new-look PPM.

Between the Friday night and 2pm on the Sunday afternoon participants, working in teams, will learn how to light a fire using friction, how to build a shelter (which they will have to sleep in), how to identify edible and useful plants, how to purify water, and how to cook on a wood fire. The Sunday will include an optional excursion for the bold to go coasteering.

The event is designed to make participants more comfortable with working in teams. It is also intended to work on their communication and morale skills, on their balance, and on their strategic and methodical thinking on such issues as risk, trust, and motivation.

The event costs £175 per person for existing members, or £200 per person for non-members, and includes breakfast, Saturday lunch and an evening meal and a packed lunch on the Sunday, plus full PPM membership for the year.

It is the PPM’s intention to hold further training events over the coming months, initially holding at least one event in each region - with the hope that new membership will lead eventually to re-establishing committees at a regional level.
