Epson 9900 used for Imperial War Museum project

This autumn, ten years after British troops first entered Afghanistan, the Imperial War Museum, London, is presenting ‘War Story: Serving in Afghanistan’ incorporating 35 images produced on an Epson 9900.

Set in the Museum's grand atrium, the presentation will feature 15 personal artefacts as well as digital screens packed with video footage, images and interviews. In addition, a display of 35 images of service personnel involved in the project will be on show on the third floor balconies overlooking the atrium.

These larger than life headshots, the compelling work of IWM photographer Richard Ash, have been produced on an Epson 9900 using Hahnmuhle baryta 315gsm paper.

Ash said: "The portraits on show were taken during the War Story workshops we held with returning troops from Afghanistan. We wanted them to be more than a record of the person, not portraits of members of the armed forces, but of people, individuals. We wanted to show that they are just like you or me. They are your brother, your dad, your sister, your best friend, your husband, your wife. So we shot them simply, asking them to remove their berets, and face straight to camera."

"What resulted was the most important work I have ever done and I hope that visitors will be able to see in these images what I saw, that their eyes connected with the viewer, telling their story for them."
