Detta Textiles launches Irish knit inspired designs at New Designers 2014

Recent textile design graduate Berni Raeside showcased her first collection of bespoke wallpapers, fabrics and knitted blankets and cushions at New Designers 2014 (25–28 June) under her new brand Detta Textiles. Berni was awarded a first class honours degree from the University of Derby earlier this year.
“With 17 years’ experience in the large-format printing industry, I wanted to use my knowledge of digital printing techniques, papers, fabrics and dyes to produce high quality digital prints suitable for the home that are produced using environmentally friendly techniques,” adds Berni.

The fabrics are printed on 100% polyester using disperse dyes on the MTEX 1800 printer which has an in-line heat polymerisation unit. This new direct-to-fabric printer which was launched last year, does not require the fabric to be pre-treated or steamed, which means wastage and energy consumption is reduced significantly compared to other digital textile printers. There’s no scrap paper (as used in dye-sub transfer print), and the fabric does not require steaming after printing. This hugely reduces the impact of producing these fabrics on the environment compared to traditional methods. The fabrics themselves are 100% recyclable.

The wallpapers were printed using the HP Latex L25500 onto 100% recyclable wallpapers. The wallpapers are high quality, odourless and durable and are a “paste-the-wall” product.

Raeside’s first collection is inspired by the craggy landscape of the Aran Islands’ windswept and wild coastline, and the knitted jumpers that the islands are famous for. It includes a range of surface pattern designs, digitally printed fabrics & wallpapers and knitted blankets and cushions for the home.
