PrintIT! takes up print apprenticeship baton

Participating students of PrintIT! 2014/15 are being asked to create an online infographic showcasing how to get an apprenticeship in print.

Jonathan Ledger, managing director of Proskills UK which runs PrintIT! to encourage young people into print, said: “The printing industries in the UK need an influx of new talent and we believe apprenticeships can not only boost the numbers but give young people opportunities they would not have otherwise had.”

The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) is supporting PrintIT! to deliver new careers packs for every one of the registered schools. These packs will include information on apprenticeships and the printing industry for teachers to pass on to their students, helping to inspire more young people into alternative routes to work and the printing industries.

Carolyn Savage, head of consumer service partnership at the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) said: “We are pleased to be able to support Proskills in encouraging young people to consider apprenticeships in the print industry. It is important we make sure that apprenticeships are not only more widely available to employers but we also need to make sure that they are attractive to young people. The PrintIT! programme helps to do just that.”

As well as the apprenticeship standard setting body for the print, paper and packaging industries, Proskills has been running PrintIT! for ten years.
