Professional Development Awards launched

BPIF Training has launched Professional Development Awards to focus on skills requirements identified across the print industry, including the large-format digital inkjet sector.

Accredited and awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), the awards are aimed at individuals who, while being experienced in their job role, may not hold a relevant qualification. They will also be appropriate for employees wishing to demonstrate continuous professional development and candidates who wish to further enhance their skills with a view to career development in a new field of the print industry.

Specific learning and assessment materials have been developed jointly by the BPIF and Attain Training to standardise the delivery and assessment of the qualifications across the UK.

Each award will run for approximately six months to one year, depending on the candidate’s experience, to be completed alongside the candidate’s job with support from an experienced BPIF training coordinator who will provide on and off-site support.

There are various specialist modules, which include ‘digital printing’ as well as sheet litho, web offset and flexography plus two finishing and two admin programmes. The ‘digital printing’ option is relevant to those operating large-format inkjet printers of any description. The three core focus points cover machine control, managing colour reproduction, and controlling use of variable data.

The cost is £950 (+VAT) per award, per candidate, which includes registration, learning materials and a dedicated training coordinator. Local funding may be available to support with cost. Details are available from programme director Ursula Daly: ursula.daly@bpif.org.uk
