Digital sector needs to focus on soft skills says report

A report into management in the digital sector has revealed that 57% of managers feel that the industry is suffering due to too much focus on hard skills. The research, by digital recruitment agency, The Candidate, found that 69% per cent of digital managers feel soft skills are overlooked.

Just 27% of managers cited technical abilities amongst the top three qualities they considered the most important in a good manager. Communication came out on top with 65% of managers ranking this in their top three most important qualities.

In addition, 19% of managers felt that the pace of the industry was making it difficult to keep up with the necessary skills needed for the role. As a result, 47% lacked confidence in their own skills, rating them just ‘average’ or below.
