BCF chief to head-up World Coatings Council

British Coatings Federation (BCF) chief executive Tom Bowtell has been elected president of the World Coatings Council, a post he’ll hold for the next two years.

The council, which provides a forum for exchange and cooperation on major issues and priorities facing the industry, has established itself as a global voice with the United Nations, Governments and NGOs for over 30 years. Sustainability will be an important theme of Bowtell’s presidency, with the council due to publish its first sustainability report later this year.

As BCF chief Bowtell is also currently working hard - together with the other member associations of the GPMA - to mitigate the impact of new licensing rules relating to gamma butyrolactone (GBL) and 1,4-butanediol (BDO), solvents used in some print inks. A workable resolution is now expected following talks earlier this month with the Home Office and BEIS.
