Expansion for POS specialist MJD

Rutland-based POS manufacturing and creative design specialists MJD has set in motion plans that will see it expand into the neighbouring county of Northamptonshire.

MJD has confirmed the signing of a lease on a new printing facility in Alpha Court, Corby as part of a £500k investment programme to support future growth plans for the business. It will also create new jobs.

Paul Barker-Smith, owner and managing director of MJD, said: “The new facility will complement our existing POS production capabilities such as vacuum forming and provide the business with the perfect environment for sustained growth. We have ambitious plans over the next few years, and this move is a statement of our commitment to being a leading player in the POS sector.”

The Corby facility will also see substantial investment in a new Océ Arizona 550XT UV flatbed printer, which has been chosen specifically for its ability to print on various rigid media whilst also minimising raw materials use.

Investment has also been made into other printing equipment including a KPX 2000T automatic screen process printing machine.

“As a business, we’re already working towards the POS industry’s Sustainability Standard (PSS), developed by Popai. The Arizona’s ability to consume half the ink of most printers in this class per printed square metre was a major contributing factor to our decision,” said Barker-Smith.
