EDP Awards to be presented at Ipex

The annual EDP Awards, which reward digital printer and associated manufacturers for innovation in research and design, will be held at Ipex on the 21 May. An international panel of independent print and print software experts will consider products introduced into the print industry in the 12 months prior to 28 February 2010 with the shortlist of potential winners to be announced on the 1 April. The winners will be announced at a ceremony during Ipex.

Ex-Service Graphics sales director Ben Moss is coming back into the wide-format industry in April after an 18-month absence following the sale of Service Graphics to St Ives. He is joining previous rival, London-based McKenzie Clark, as commercial director.

Figures show small firms losing out on energy deals

The Forum of Private Business (FPB) is urging firms to shop around for better energy deals after Government data showed that average electricity prices for small and medium sized firms increased by 15-17% between the third quarter of 2008 and the same period of 2009. However, prices increased by 9-11% for large businesses and by just 5% for the UK's biggest companies.

B&P Graphics introduces AquaRes resin ink for solvent machines

Sign and Digital UK will see the UK introduction of the water-based Sepiax range of AquaRes resin inks by B&P Graphic Supplies. The company said the inks will run in existing solvent machines using piezo printinghead technology via a simple changeover process and without major machine modification.

Management buy-out at Duraweld

Duraweld managers Hannah Senior and husband Mark Yeung have bought the company from Richard Senior. Hannah Senior, Richard's daughter, becomes chief operating officer and Yeung its finance manager. Richard, who has led the company since 1972, will be staying on as a consultant for the next three years.

Colour management and digital imaging specialist Color Confidence has relocated its headquarters to Spectrum Point in southwest Birmingham. The move is a major step in the company's five-year expansion plan.

Tech8 endorses Colorific inks

After extensive field testing across a range of Mimaki and Uniform wide-format solvent-based inkjet printers, technical support company Tech8 has accepted Colorific Bio-U, Elite, Fresh and ProJ3 inks onto its approved product programme. Already in place is support for wide-format printers using Sun Chemical's Streamline inks.

Amari Plastics undertakes UK distribution for Dibond ACM panels

Dibond ACM panels are now available in the UK through Amari Plastics service centres following an agreement with manufacturer 3A Composites (formerly Alcan Composites). Dibond digital and Dilite panels will also be available. Vision in Print offers lean manufacturing training days

Printers across all spectrums are being encouraged to attend Vision in Print's lean manufacturing training days created to enable managers to lead its implementation. "Often those who are asked to implement lean manufacturing processes within a business have successfully undertaken one or two projects and are committed to the concept but would benefit from having additional tools or skills," said Richard Gray, director of Vision in Print, part of the BPIF.
