Canon garners feedback on Velocity project

As well as launching the ColorWave 650 Poster Printer for the POS market, parent company Canon is taking the opportunity to garner views from visitors to its Drupa stand on a concept product called Velocity, a 42in width printer that combines Memjet inkjet technology with Océ workflows. It incorporates the same six media roll capacity as the ColorWave 650 and applies more than three billion drops of ink per second for high-speed printing.

“At the moment is really is just a prototype machine and we’re trying to find out what we can do with the technology,” said Erik van Eldik, VP, wide-format printing systems, Océ. “We see it as having most potential in the CAD/GIS markets, but there may be scope for graphic arts too. We want to make some decisions by Q4 this year.”

Talking about the market for the new ColorWave 650 meanwhile, van Eldik said it should be attractive to professional wide-format graphics producers, admitting that the earlier ColorWave 600 was not really suited to the sector. The new offering prints at up to 155 AO sheets per hour. The prints are instantly dry, water resistant, cut to size and ready to be mounted.
