Sappi has opened its new Paper Lab, another step in the expansion of its speciality papers division where the company spent around 61 million Euro rebuilding the PM 2 paper machine that was officially launched last year.
The new Paper Lab, a six-figure investment, replaces the previously used test line in the climate lab. It is set to test over 30,000 jumbo rolls or drums per year. This corresponds to about 281,000 individual measurements per year. After a check on a jumbo roll or drum, the corresponding production batch - including the Fusion board sold in the wide-format inkjet print sector for use in POP and POS displays - is assigned a certificate signifying the highest quality.
