Fujifilm sails into top three

Fujifilm sailed into third place in the four-yearly Round Britain and Ireland Race (the RB&I). 'We're delighted with our performance in the race and it really was a true test of our endurance,' said Alex Bennett, Fujifilm's skipper. 'I've been sailing for many years and it's been a long time since I've seen conditions like that - at one stage Fujifilm recorded 40 knots of wind with gusts of 48 knots. ?It's been a fantastic experience and we're already looking forward to the next RB&I in 2014.'?

EFI finalises Radius acquisition

Electronics For Imaging (EFI) has closed its acquisition of Radius Solutions, a provider of MIS solutions for the packaging industry. As previously indicated, Radius Solutions will become part of the Advanced Professional Print Software (APPS) division of EFI where it intends to integrate it with a number of products including Fiery, Vutek, Jetrion, Digital StoreFront, PrintFlow and Auto-Count.?

Sun shines light on Evolution range

Sun UK has introduced the Evolution range of wide-format printers into the UK graphics market. The 1.6m and 2.5m wide machines, which use LED lamps for immediate curing on a range of substrates, can print at 360 x 360dpi or 720 x 1440dpi with a variable drop size of between four and 40 picolitres at speeds up to 25m/hr. Prices start at ?54,000.?

Amari Plastics buys Graphic Printing Technologies

Amari Plastics has bought Graphic Printing Technologies (GPT), the two-year old wide-format printing solutions provider. GPT, which will continue to trade under its current name (but as part of Amari Plastics plc, not as a limited company), is to move to a new and larger building with increased office and warehouse space and a larger product showroom and demonstration facilities. Until the move all phone numbers, contacts and emails will remain the same.

Metamark expands digital textiles offering

Metamark's MD class digital materials portfolio continues to expand and is characterised by media which are tolerant of high ink loadings and produce exceptional fidelity and resolution. Often specified as reference materials by printer manufacturers, Metamark MD class materials are broadly compliant with modern ink species and available with profiles for a range of printers, Rips and settings.

Banner material from Sioen Sioline

Two digital print banner materials have been introduced by Sioen Sioline: Sioen Wall and Sioen Paper. The first is composed on PVC and PET and can be papered onto any surface or used as a frontlit. The 280gsm material has a slightly embossed surface and is available in 50m rolls in widths from 130 - 200cm The Paper product is a semi rigid banner that looks like paper but is much stronger.?

DuPont Graphics introduces Imvelo

DuPont Graphics has introduced the Imvelo range of green substrates for UV and screen printing. The range, currently comprising Imvelo 2270G and Imvelo Deco, is made of pure polypropylene and is 100% recyclable.

Mactac launches Eco range

Mactac has launched an Eco-product range comprising Imagin printing media and Permacolor protective films. The Imagin JT 1429 SP is a white matt PP film for inkjet printing, coated with an emulsion semi-permanent acrylic adhesive. The JT 5422 P is a white glossy PP film and JT 5499 R clear glossy PET film with an optically clear removable adhesive for eco-mild-UV- and latex inkjet printing. New Permacolor films include the PG 7494 satin PP film, PG 7498 matt PP film and PG 7499 gloss PP film coated with a permanent emulsion acrylic adhesive. These 100 % chlorine-free self-adhesive films are coated with emulsion acrylic adhesives.

Major move for WP Digital

Wifag Polytype Holding, owner of wide-format inkjet printer company WP Digital, is to take the digital print technology into the packaging and coating/converting markets, as a result of which Polytype Ltd and WP Digital were consolidated on 1 July. The move means WP Digital's site in Wittenbach will be dismantled and all business activities relocated to Fribourg. The relocation should be completed by the end of 2010. WP Digital's products will be produced and developed under the trade name Virtu as an independent business unit. Contacts for the sales and service will remain the same.

ITL appointment to fortify customer focus


Ink Technologies (ITL) has taken on a customer service executive to reinforce the message that customer requirements and opinions are at the forefront of its approach to the development and supply of alternative printing inks. Stephen Wright steps into the role where his remit is to implement a structured approach to improving customer experience by contacting key accounts and assessing and implementing their responses and recommendations.?

Durst strengthens UK sales team

Durst has strengthened its UK sales team by appointing a sales manager to cover the north of the mainland and Northern Ireland. Peter Ashworth will be responsible for sales of all Durst inkjet printing equipment for the region. Ashworth worked as national sales manager for Vivad, a display company in Melbourne, from 2002 up to his move to the UK in 2006 when he became UK north and Ireland territory manager for EFI Vutek.?

Ritrama expands materials portfolio

Self-adhesive materials manufacturer Ritrama has brought out a number of new vinyl, polypropylene and polyester-based products including Floor Talker, Ri-Jet Eco-Digital range, the Air Flow repositionable vehicle wrap series and Ri-View perforated vinyls range.

Latex vehicle wrap film from Hexis

French vinyl manufacturer Hexis has launched a cast latex digital printing film and gloss laminate for vehicle wrapping applications. Both films are PVC-free and do not contain any solvents, plasticisers or heavy metals. At Fespa 2010 Hexis used a US-made Tesla electric roadster to demo the new films and emphasise their environment-friendly qualities.

3M adds to its film range

3M has extended its films range, including new vehicle wrap options, a creative graphic series and an architectural film.
