BAPC highlights challenges for 2010

According to the latest BAPC Mini Survey of members the last quarter of 2009 saw a balance between the amount of printers busier than in the previous six months and those who saw work drop off. 38% said they were busier, the same proportion that said things had slowed down - the other 24% said levels of work were relatively unchanged.

Kall Kwik Norwich has bought a Roland Soljet XC-540MT wide-format inkjet printer to help it diversify. The machine, supplied by PaperCo, features white and metallic inks in addition to the four process colours, and it can die-cut inline.

EFI Vutek QS220 extends superwide offering

The new Vutek QS220, a 2m-wide, direct-to-substrate, UV-curing flatbed printer with high-definition print (HDP) quality and superwide productivity, boasts lower ink running costs than traditional wide-format printers according to EFI.

Uvistar roll-to-roll superwide printer from Fujifilm

Fujifilm has unveiled its Uvistar series of UV inkjet roll-to-roll printers to the European market. These new printers, which use Fujifilm Sericol's specially developed Uvijet QK inks and can print on rolls up to 5m wide, have been developed to meet the demands of the changing billboard sector.

Roland DG to exhibit at packaging show

Roland DG and the German-based industrial inkjet specialist CSAT are the latest digital print press manufacturers to have confirmed participation within the new 'Print for Packaging zone' which is part of four packaging shows taking place at Birmingham's NEC on 24-25 February. The 'Print for Packaging zone' now incorporates over twenty prepress and production digital technology developers - most of them new to the event.

W2P uptake prompts Hiflex to make new appointment

Increased demand for the Hiflex Web2Print solution has prompted the company to appoint Volker Mohr as sales manager to handle the print industry's rising interest in online storefronts.

ImagePerfect range expanded

Two white gloss polymeric vinyls have been added to the Spandex ImagePerfect range. The new IP 2503 Plus and the IP 2503PA Plus have been engineered for digital printing on large-format inkjets and are compatible with all eco-solvent, solvent and UV-cured inks.

Litho Supplies companies GAE and Andersons find new owners

Graphica Plus, the Litho Supplies wide-format consumables company trading as Andersons, has been bought out of receivership by All Print Supplies. The news comes as administrator MCR also confirmed the sale of Litho Supplies' finishing business Graphic Art Equipment (GAE) to Horizon Print Finishing Equipment which is run by Tony Hards and Bryan Godwyn, the partnership that sold GAE to Litho Supplies two years ago but who remained directors.

Brindley makes UK first with :Anapurna M2

Birmingham-based Brindley Design and Print is the first UK company to install an :Anapurna M2, Agfa's high-speed UV curable inkjet system.

Drytac recruits for the north

Drytac Europe has appointed Steve Broad as technical area sales manager. From his base in Wigan he will cover all areas from north Wales through to Cleethorpes and all points north of this. Paul Tomlinson, who previously carried out the role of area sales manager for the north, will now cover the newly created Midlands territory.
